As occurs with many cities in the US, the impressive skyline of Houston draws you into what would appear to be a magnificent city. Architectural opulence gives way to another reality. That day I was wearing new shoes and had left my socks behind at the hotel because of the heat. I had to buy a pair of socks as the new footwear was making my “plates of meat” sore. At the foot (talking of feet) of one of these fine monoliths of glass and stone I entered a store in search of a pair of socks then…. And what a run down and shabby shop that was. It was big, it had once been classy and grand…..but lo and behold the filth and poverty astonished me….. A city of contrasts is Houston.
